Support Classical Tuesdays in Old Town and Enjoy a Festive Evening

Join Classical Tuesdays in Old Town for their annual Wine & Song Benefit on December 8 at the John Connelly Law Offices in Old Town! The guest artist is renowned soprano Cyndia Sieden. She will be accompanied by pianist Jennifer Bowman. Featured music this year are songs of Tacoma’s own Gregory Youtz,  as well as songs by John Musto, Saint-Saens, and Richard Strauss!

After an intimate recital, attendees will enjoy lovely wines poured by Ginkgo Forest Winery Tasting Room. Metropolitan Market has graciously offered finger foods for the occasion.

This evening is a community gathering to celebrate and support the Classical Tuesdays in Old Town series of free music events. All are welcome!

Spaceworks will offer information sessions and “office hours” for potential applicants prior to the deadline to present ways to build a strong application and provide feedback to applicant’s proposals.

Spaceworks Announces: Creative Enterprise Applications Open

Spaceworks invites creatives* who have a plan for a creative/innovative business that benefits Tacoma’s community and are seeking to develop a thriving business to apply to participate in its 2016 Creative Enterprise Program.

Spaceworks’ Creative Enterprise Program provides relevant and meaningful business training and peer-to-peer support to the participants to systematically grow Tacoma’s creative class and generate destination quality activity that will engage and transform our community. Affordable space is also provided, dependent on availability, to serve as a training ground to test new ideas, products and services with a safety net of technical assistance and mentorship.

Selected participants will start Spaceworks’ Creative Enterprise Training in January 2016 and pitch a full business plan for review in May 2016. Spaceworks staff will help to launch these businesses to the streets of Tacoma throughout 2016.

Flamenco Tuesday

Join Classical Tuesdays in Old Town for an Evening of Flamenco music and dance! Bring along your family and friends; all ages are welcome.

On November 10, Classical Tuesdays in Old Town will feature the great Flamenco artist  Vicente Griego.  Griego, with “his deep, sonorous wails that seem to come from…deep within his soul”, is from New Mexico and has devoted his life to the study of cante Flamenco, the art of Flamenco singing. Joining Griego is New Orleans-born guitarist Gerardo Alcalá, one of the few foreigners to be respected as a full-fledged Flamenco artist by the gypsy Flamencos of Andalusia. Marisela Fleites Lear, popular dancer and teacher of Flamenco in the Tacoma area, will translate this intense, passionate music in some traditional Flamenco dances with her proud carriage and expressive use of the arms and rhythmic stamping of the feet.

Flamenco, traditional to the southern Andalusia region of Spain, includes cante (singing), toque (guitar playing), baile (dance) and jaleo (vocalizations and rhythmic clapping and finger snapping).
