Welcome to National Poetry Month

npm2013_poster_540It’s the 1st of April and Tacoma is launching into National Poetry Month! All month long, Tacoma poets and arts groups will be celebrating and you are invited to participate in the line up of extraordinary and meaningful events.

On April 2nd, Tacoma City Council will proclaim April to be National Poetry Month. Then, on April 5th, help celebrate the launch of poetry month with local poets Tammy Robacker and Maria Chong Gudaitis. Hear readings by former Tacoma Poet Laureates Bill Kupinse and Tammy Robacket, current laureate Josie Emmons Turner, and welcome the 2013-15 Tacoma Poet Laureate at the Tacoma Poet Laureate Celebration and Reading on April 23. Attend a reading of Northwest and nationally-acclaimed poets at King’s Books, PLU and local libraries. And, if you dare–read your own work at the Distinguished Writer Series or Free Ya Mind open mic.

Writing the City: Poetry Workshop for Youth

Behind the Masc w/ Carlos Andrés Gómez

A special interactive performance and dialogue on masculinity and manhood, with the 2006 Toronto Intl. Poetry Slam champ and author of “Man Up: Cracking the Code of Modern Manhood.” An innovative mix of town hall dialogue and spoken word performance.

SWAN Day Event
