Are you just getting started in writing poetry but could use some encouragement? Or are already underway but are looking for some constructive feedback? Tacoma Poet Lauretate Josie Emmons Turner is ready to help you move your poetry to the next level this November in a special free one-day workshop.
During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to examine their poetry from the reader’s perspective and will be provided constructive feedback. Emmons Turner will read and comment on poems submitted by each participant. The workshop will also cover technical questions regarding the writing process.
No formal writing experience is required. Space is limited to 15 participants and pre-registration by Oct. 29 is required. To register for the workshop, email your contact information, three samples of your poems and a brief description of your writing experience to Josie.firstname.lastname@example.org. Workshop participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch and writing materials.

Emmons Turner is the 2011-2013 Tacoma Poet Laureate. Her work has been published in national journals and has been included in the Floating Bridge Review, In Tahoma’s Shadow, California Quarterly, and the Backstreet Review. She has founded and/or managed a variety of cultural organizations and is currently teaching senior and sophomore writing classes at Clover Park High School. She received her Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing through the Rainier Writing Workshop at Pacific Lutheran University.
