Lucas Smiraldo’s “Slam Town” at the Grand Cinema

23 May

Spirits and prophets, poets and daemons, all lay claim to a gray and decayed city – Tacoma – in Lucas Smiraldo’s film, Slam Town. Episode 3 of this drama will screen on Saturday, May 26, at 8 pm at the Grand Cinema. Tickets are $10 (cash or check preferred) and include entry to a post-screening reception with dessert.

In Slam Town episodes one and two, released last year with funding from the Tacoma Arts Commission, Smiraldo introduced a new genre of storytelling where dialogue is delivered “poetry-slam style”. In episode 3, a local mystery unravels in the aftermath of loss. At 20 minutes, this installment is by far the longest and most sophisticated of the Slam Town franchise thus far.

Only 60 seats remain so you must RSVP (vanillasoul@clear.net) to hold your spot at the screening and reception. Join members of the cast, artists who helped write and perform the work, and members of the film crew at the post-film reception. DVD’s of the first three episodes of Slam Town will also be available for $10!
