Arts Appreciation Night at Cheney Stadium!

16 Aug

Isn’t it about time the arts world and the sports world collided? Imagine the possibilities…well, a few artists already have. If you’ve been to a Tacoma Rainiers game this season, then you’ve probably seen some great new art – the Home Run fish and the lights of Tilt – and some old favorites, like the mosaic It’s Outta Here and of course, the classic Ben Cheney sculpture.

Three of the "Home Run" salmon, by David Franklin. Want to know more about his inspiration? Go on the tour at Arts Appreciation Night!

If you haven’t found a reason to get over to Cheney Stadium this summer yet, here’s your chance! We’re throwing an Arts Appreciation Night there on August 29. It’s going to be pretty amazing. Why, you ask? Well…

  • A $9.95 ticket will get you a reserved seat and a voucher for a hot dog, chips, and a drink
  • You can come to the public art tour at 5:30 (meet us outside the gates, by the fish!), and hear what the artists themselves have to say about their pieces
  • The concourse will be hoppin’ before and during the game, with entertainment by the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association, autograph signing with the players, and a kids’ project with the Museum of Glass
  • You’ll see the Rainiers mascot, Rhubarb, break out some sweet moves with Fab-5 dancers during an inning break
  • Get a sneak peek at what’s in store for this year’s Art at Work Month
  • And of course, watch championship baseball! Our Tacoma Rainiers – last year’s Pacific Coast League Champion – will be taking on the Tucson Padres.

Game time is 7:05, but don’t miss out on the public art tour at 5:30! Not only do you get to learn more about the new art, but you also get to tour the newly renovated Cheney Stadium, if you haven’t seen it all yet (the tour will include a stop in one of the luxury suites. Fancy, eh?). You’ll have plenty of time afterwards to cash in on your free food and find your reserved seat.

Sound like – a ball – to you? Grab some friends or family and check out this flyer for more information about ordering tickets. Make sure you order your tickets ahead of time – you won’t get the special price at the door! Just mention Arts Appreciation Night when you call Graham for tickets at 253.752.7707 ext.184. See you there!
