On April 27, the DASH Center for the Arts will open the curtains on Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. For one weekend only the Mt Tahoma High School Theatre will be transformed into a kingdom where nothing is impossible. Experience again the warmth of the Prince and hilarity of the Stepsisters, while being thoroughly entertained by amazing musical numbers, which DASH Center is known for creating.
“Since our 2009 production of The Wiz, several community members have religiously asked when our next stage play would be. We had to get our footing first, but now we’re back! Cinderella will show that we are ready to play in the big leagues, and make DASH Center for the Arts a household name when it comes to Tacoma theatre”, said Candi Hall, Founder and Executive Director of the DASH Center.
Cinderella boasts a cast of 40 with ages ranging from 4 to adult, theatrical first-timers to professional artists. The classic fairytale will stay very true to the 1997 teleplay from which it was adapted, featuring Brandy and the late Whitney Houston. As with every DASH Center production, however, there are bound to be some pleasant surprises!
“We were short on guys when we started. We got two boys from a local basketball team, then next rehearsal they brought a friend, then another and another. Now we have almost the whole squad! It’s wonderful to see youth working outside their comfort zone, growing and expanding their horizons, creating new experiences for themselves. That’s what DASH is all about!,” said Hall.
Cinderella is directed by Isiah Anderson Jr, choreography by Artistic Director Jimmy Shields, Music Direction by Ayo Cooley and Michael Cole.
DASH Center for the Arts is a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to providing quality arts education for all, while creating programs which encourage academic excellence, community involvement, and counteract negative gang and drug influences.
The Tacoma Arts Commission is proud to help support this production through Arts Projects funding.
